Franciacorta Brut Sparkling Wine

Fine bubbles make this wine unique. Produced in the classic champagne method, this is a truly elegant and refreshing wine. Richness, creaminess, complexity and an aroma of fresh bread, compared simpler tank-fermented sparklers (such as prosecco)

Aptly made near the fashion mecca of Milan in Lombardy, franciacorta was Italy’s first wine to be produced in the classic “champagne” method of second fermentation in the bottle. A long ageing on the lees (yeast sediment) in the bottle imbues it with more richness, creaminess and complexity than simpler tank-fermented sparklers (such as prosecco). It is a lot more expensive than some bubblies, but a recent, comprehensive franciacorta tasting at the Italian Embassy revealed high quality all round.

The wines, made from chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot blanc grapes, are impressively champagne-like, often with slightly softer acidity, masses of bubbles, and a hint of almond, with peach, apples and citrus fruit but finishing dry.

The best chardonnay grapes are chosen for this wine, they come from different vintages (S.A. means senza annata, which means without vintage)

After fermentation, this particular wine is refined on the barms for a period not less than 18 months. During this time it develops an intense bouquet.
